BaofengTech announces UV-82HP

Initial release information

Today we look at the new UV-82HP, the newest model in the UV-82 line from Baofeng, which is essentially updated hardware provided for the US distributor side of the company, BaofengTech. The UV-82 line has been regarded as a preferred model for some people due to its slightly more rugged build, the increased speaker output, and the commercial options available in the software not available for most of the UV-5R, BF-F8, or GT3 line. This radio falls along the lines of combining the better options of the BF-F8HP with the UV-82C radio.
Below is the information provided from the BaofengTech website. I should have an actual 82HP model in my hands within a few days after writing this.

What Makes it Unique?

  • It has 3 Power Levels (1, 5, 7 watt)
  • VFO/ MR (Frequency Mode) can be locked via software
  • The Dual Push-to-Talk Switch can be synchronized via software to simplify operation of the radio
  • A new 80 Page In-Depth User's Guide
  • It includes the High Gain V-85 Antenna to Optimize Performance
  • Full Accessory Compatibility with ALL UV-82 accessories
  • Multiple TONE Burst Options on a NEW user Menu. Selectable Tone Burst Options Include: 1000hz, 1450hz, 1750hz, 2100hz

High Output 7 Watt UV-82HP

The UV-82HP is the second generation of the classic UV-82 Series. Some new features found in the UV-82HP are the three selectable power levels (Low - 1 watt, Medium - 5 watt, High- 7 watt) allowing for a high-output of seven watts.

The UV-82 Series come with a dual push-to-talk button. The dual PTT is a huge leap forward in the HT technology. It allows you to transmit on two frequencies by the use of the rocker PTT switch. By pressing up you can transmit on "Frequency A" and by pushing down you can transmit on "Frequency B". Frequency A or B can also be used as a scanner of channels, frequencies, CTCSS and DTS tones.
On the BaoFeng UV-82HP you are able to synchronize the PTT button to enable single Push-to-Talk communications.

The BaoFeng UV-82 Series

The UV-82 series has upped the bar on affordable ham radio technology! Compared to previous BaoFeng products (UV-5R, GT-3, and the v2+ Series) the UV-82 comes with a much louder speaker (1 watt), a much more solid case with larger buttons, and a new chipset and PCB board that outperforms the range, accuracy, and output of the previous BaoFeng chipsets. It is not simply a remake but a new radio from the ground up. It outperforms the the 2nd Gen UV-5R chipset (used in the UV-5Rs, GT-3 BF-F8+, and v2+ series).

Dual Watch Receiver

The UV-82HP has one built-in receiver but can "watch" two channels (semi duplex). Monitor two different frequencies (even on different bands (VHF/UHF)) and the radio will monitor both frequencies giving priority to the first station to receive an incoming call.

FM Broadcast Station

You can listen to the FM Broadcast radio, while still monitoring your radio frequencies in the background. Any incoming call will be given priority insuring you never miss an important call while listening to the radio.

Group Tones supported

The UV-82HP supports the most common Analog Tones. It supports CTCSS, DCS, and DTMF calling methods. Set-up your calling methods to call by group tones. Tone calling (private line) is required by most repeater applications and the UV-82HP supports the latest standards
The UV-82HP can even send DTMF tones. This allows for sending ANI (Caller ID) or remote commands that require DTMF tones

Internal VOX function

The UV-82HP has an internal VOX (Voice Operated Transmit) function for convenient hands-free operation and can be used in conjunction with the included earpiece and mic. The VOX level and VOX delay time are adjustable your needs.

Customize Your Operation with channels, Programmable Buttons, and more!

You can program your UV-82HP exactly how you want it. There are 128 programmable memory channels. You can add or remove channels from scanning list using the free computer software. You can give channels alphanumeric names, using a computer. The radio has 3 power levels (7 watt maximum), allowing you to choose how far you can communicate. You can set VFO limits using the CHIRP software. You can easily program from a PC to set-up the radio to operate exactly as needed.

Thank you and God Bless!
